Graphic Design
Graphic design is the process of communicating visually using text and images to present information.
A graphic designer utilizes a variety of cognitive skills, aesthetics and crafts, including typography,
visual arts and page layout. The general term graphic design applies to the wide range of fields from
advertizing to journalism to entertainment. At General Web Technologies we are focused on
graphic web design which brings all of the aspects of graphic design together into forming your web pages.
Graphic Designer
A graphic designer (also known as a graphic artist) is a professional within the
graphic design and graphic arts industry to create pieces of work using the tools
of graphic design. A graphic designer creates the graphics primarily for published,
printed or electronic media. A core responsibility of the designer's job is to present
information in a way that is both accessible and aesthetic.
On the Web
Design on the web is the designing and graphical presentation of content shown on
the Internet in the form of Web sites and other Web applications using many different
forms of media. The design of most pages on the Web use HTML, XHTML and CSS. Many
sites today also integrate various forms of dynamic, interactive content using E-Commerce,
and server-side languages such as ASP.NET. Often web design is confused with web
development, they are in fact two related but, strictly speaking, separate areas
in the creation of a web page. In a well formed web site, web development (which
involves web server configuration, writing web applications, and server security)
is kept separate from web design because the disjointing of design and function
is generally considered to be good practice.
Look and Feel
The look and feel of a web site comprises aspects of its design, including elements
such as colors, shapes, layout, and typefaces (the "look"), as well as the behavior
of dynamic elements such as buttons, boxes, and menus (the "feel"). The term look
and feel is predominately used in reference to web sites. It is often considered
to be best practice to programmatically separate the look and the feel of a web
site so that one may be changed without affecting the other. Another important purpose
of the look and feel of a web site is that all of the pages should have the same
look and feel so a user intuitively knows how to navigate on any page.
Design of Graphics
A major part of composing the graphic design of a web site is the creation of personalized
graphics for use throughout the web site. A graphic design is a piece of artwork
that conveys meaning about something while still looking aesthetically pleasing.
These graphics can be plain text arranged in an eye catching manner or they could
also be completely devoid of any text but still has some relation to the subject
matter. Our graphic logo with GWT and the Hibiscus flower is a great example of
a personalized graphic. These subtle nuances can make all the difference in the
world in keeping you unique among the millions of pages in the World Wide Web.
